I think that Jack wants a Monarchy, where he is the leader, and all follow to his commands. He inflicts fear to control them as he pleases. It seems also that he is a Dictator. Wanting power with out anyone's consent. Ralph wants a Democracy, where the people need and want his authority. Even though he wants to be the “king” of the boys he doesn't inflict his authority with fear. They also voted for Ralph. Piggy wants a Democracy also. Right now it seems that the boy's system of government is currently Aristocracy. Whereas Ralph, Jack, and partially Simon rule and suggest things.
I think that Ralph is the president of his tribe. He represents a democracy. He makes rules and expects them to be followed. Yet he still asks for the agreement of the group on the rules. He realizes that if they don’t have rules, then they don’t have anything. Piggy has the same ideas. He believes that without rules, all the boys will become animals. He is intelligent, so he can see the consequences of having anything besides their current democracy. He is in favor of Ralph as the ruler. Simon is also a democratic supporter. He agrees that if they let Jack rule his way, then they will never get anything accomplished. Simon really wants to go home, and he sees that Jack is not as eager to do so. Jack is the hunter. I don’t believe he has any form of government, because that would imply that he had any sort of order. He is perfectly fine with letting the boys run—literally—wild. He believes that the ends justify the means, so if they have to maliciously murder a pig to get meat, then the right thing to do is just that. Unfortunately, most of the boys have followed suit.
Ralph represents a direct democracy. Ralph is elected chief by the people. From there on, Ralph doesn't just create rules by himself, but he calls on the people in assemblies. There, everybody is present to say what they think about an idea, and eventually come up with a solution to an issue to please the majority of the people. Jack, however, represents a totalitarian type of government. If Jack were in rule, he would use fear to make people do what he wanted them to do. He would use his group of "hunters" to control everyone on the island. He would not allow anyone to disagree with his ideas, unlike Ralph, who lets people talk about what they think is right. Jack's way of thinking would not result in the children getting rescued.
There are different types of governments that can represent each boy's idea of order. Ralph represents a democracy. Ralph is the leader of the children and is a competent leader. He leads the children for the good of them. Ralph does this by collecting the children's opinions when making the rules so that everything is not based off of his say in what to do. Piggy, also represents a democracy the same way as Ralph does. Simon can relate to Ralph's and Piggy's way of governing. He is not as much of a competent leader however. He wants everything to be opinionated by everyone fairly to avoid chaos on the island. Jack represents a monarchy. I think he could be classified as an absolute monarch. Jack does not care for other people's opinions and wants things done for the better of him and his hunters. With Jack's way of governing, I believe the children on the island would be stuck there for a lifetime in misery.
Ralph represents a democracy.Ralph's conch which calls together meetings for discussion and most democratic of all, opinion represents Ralph's democratic representation of government.
Piggy represents justic, reason, and intelligence which best support democracy or Ralph's government.
Jack represents a monarchy or at the very least, a dictatorship. He uses propaganda in an effort to control the minds and stomaches of the others on the island with meat. This supports his monarch-like representation of government.
Both Jack and Ralph think they should be the leader and I see this causing a rather large problem sometime in the future of this book. Jack feels he should have all of the power because (he is very arrogant) he can sing a c sharp (not helpful in this situation) and because he is the head boy of the chorus. Ralph thinks that he should be the leader because he found the conch and got everyone to assemble there. Now some of the other boys probably could be in a partner leadership because they are to quiet or afraid of having all the power. They most likely feel that splitting the power EVENLY between two people would be the best way to go. Of cores that doesn’t happen (At least not yet anyway) because then they would have a consistent and fair government society with no problems. The book would end very shortly, very differently, or both.
I think that Ralph represents democracy because he listens more to the people and adjust his leadership for whats best for the group. Piggy seems like he is also represents democracy as well because he talks to the other boys and comforts them when they have nightmares.Simon is also represents democracy because he does whats best for the rest other the group. But Jack is more of a republican or absolute ruler because he want to ruler everyone in a very strict manor. He wants to rule them his way and how he thinks they should be getting help.
In my opinion, Ralph and Piggy would both be represented by a democracy. Even though Ralph is the chief, he does not make absolute decisions. First of all, he let the boys vote on the chief, which gave them power. Also, Ralph calls assemblies in order to discuss certain issues, and he lets people speak up if they have suggestions. Piggy is represented by a democracy as well, because he lets his opinions be recognized, but he also gives other people the chance to speak, as long as they obey the rules of the conch. Jack, on the other hand, is better represented by an absolute monarchy. He does not care what other people think or how they feel. He even called six year old boys crybabies because they were scared! He believes that everything should be done his way, as you could tell when he decided that he wanted to hunt for a pig instead of keeping the fire going. Ralph and Jack have opposing representations of government, and you can tell by the way they try to keep things in order.
There are many different types of governments each boy wants. I believe that Ralph wants a democracy where everyone gets to have a say in what the boys' priorities are and what they have to do on the island. He most likely would want this type of government because it would let everyone have a say in what happens and there would be rules so that everything is not completely chaotic. One reason that i can tell that Ralph wants this type of government is because he demonstrates it when he holds the meetings to let everyone talk and discuss ideas. Piggy also represents a democracy because Piggy is the most intelligent and reasonable boy on the island so he would want the type of government that is the most efficient and retains the order on the island. On the other hand, Jack represents an absolute monarchy or a tyranny. Jack wants to rule completely and have power over every single boy. He represents this because he doesn't care about the other boys' opinions and only wants to do what he wants to do. Then, there are the younger boys or littluns who reprsent an anarchial type of government where there are no rules and everyone runs around and does whatever they want. They want this because they don't care about the rules and about what anyone else says; all they want to do is play in the sand at the beach and eat fruit.
In the book I think there are two different types of government that the boys believe in.
Ralph wants to run with democracy by not completely controlling them and listening to what the people say. He will choice the decision that works best for the group. He calls on the people in assemblies to agree on the rules so that he doesn't control by himself.
Piggy represents reason and intelligence which agrees with Ralph idea of democracy. He believes that if Jack ruled there would be no stability and everyone would become savages.
Simon also agrees with Ralph's way of ruling because he thinks if Jack was the leader he would get nothing done and have them stuck on the island forever. All Simon's wants is to get off this island and Jack just doesn't have the ability to do so but he believes Ralph does.
Jack wants to rule with a monarchy and control everyone. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and his hunters. All his decisions would reflect on how he thinks will benefit himself. He control with fear and propaganda.
Ralph was voted for a reason because two other important characters in the story agree with him and not even Jack's hunters like him so he has no one on his side.
I believe that Ralph wants a democracy. He does not rule for himself and wants to help get off the island. Also he does not abuse his power. For example, he does not force anyone to build the shelters and lets them play and swim. Finally he holds assemblies where he can get everyone's opinions and address problems without deciding himself.
I also believe that Piggy wants a democracy. He, like Ralph, always asks for everyone's opinion on different matters such as the beast. He also likes to contribute to the assembly but not control it. This is why he supports Ralph and is afraid of Jack.
I think that Simon also wants a democracy. Although he seems too shy to lead himself, he wants what is best for him and everyone else and thinks that Ralph's idea of governing is the best way to achieve this.
Jack wants to have a monarchy. He feels that he should be the leader and everyone should do as he says. This is shown by the way he directly disobeys the conch and also how he orders around the hunters. He, like a monarch, only cares about himself and important people around him, which is shown by his hate towards Piggy and his cruelty to the littluns
I believe that the majority of the boys, such as Ralph, Piggy, and Simon would best fit in a democracy. Ralph seems to get everyone's opinion when he makes decisions. He likes to hear what the people have to say. Also, Piggy would fit in a democracy because he is always giving his opinion during meetings. He wants his voice to be heard. Finally, although Simon does not play a big role in the group, he would fit in a democracy because he likes the way that Ralph governs, which is democratic.
On the other hand, Jack would fit in a monarchy/dictatorship. He bullies around Piggy and he wants everything done his way. If he was the leader of the group, his word would be law. Also, he is very aggressive. This would make his style of leadership like a savage dictatorship.
As you are reading “Lord of the Flies”, you start to see certain forms of government relating to a few boys. Ralph best represents a democracy because in a democracy, people elect their own leader and follow by his rules. In the book, Ralph is the elected leader of all the boys and the boys must follow his rules. Ralph is a good example of a democracy leader because he calls meetings and gives everyone the right to speak instead of deciding everything on his own. Jack on the other hand represents more of a dictatorship type of government. In a dictatorship, the ruler wants absolute power and doesn’t count on anyone’s opinion. Jack is mostly related to a dictator because he wants to be the leader and have everything done his own way.
I think there are two different types of government going on in the book. I think that jack wants a monarchy. I also think that Ralph wants a democracy.
Jack wants to rule everything on the island. He does not care what the other people want. He wants to take control. He is like a monarchy. He wants absolute power. He thinks everyone should listen and do what he says.
Ralph wants a democracy. He cares about him, and the people on the island getting home. He is doing what is best. He is trying to keep the fire going, trying to get food. But the people are not listening. He is still letting them play in the water, and still have fun.
While reading this book I have seen two different forms of government. Jack wants a monarchy, while Ralph wants a democracy.
Jack shows that he wants a monarchy by bossing all the other boys around. He wants to have complete control and power over everyone. Then he expects them to have no fun what-so-ever.
Ralph shows that he wants a democracy. He wants all the other boys to have a say in what they do. Even though the other boys do not listen to Ralph at all about building shelters, or making fire. He still lets them have fun.
I think that most of the boys with Ralph, just want to have a democracy type of government with them. Ralph wants his people to have equal amounts of rights all through out, no over power. But the boys barely ever listen to him though so he needs to be a little strict on them.
As for the other ones that take sides with Jack, he just wants to like rule the place all by himself without any rules there; he just wants to hunt for food without making any fire to get out of the place so Jack would probably be in the monarchy type of government.
I think that Ralph wants a democracy. While on the other hand Jack wants a Monarchy. This is can be supported welly by how they act Jack is a boy who wants to boss everybody around and does not care what they have to say. But Ralph is the type of boy who cares about the well being of everybody on the island.
Also most of the boys will want a democracy like Ralph does because they would want to put their ideas and thoughts out. They would want a democracy instead of having to do everything a monarch says and not being able to say anything about it. The small amount of boys with Jack are the choir/hunters only because they are obedient to whatever he has to say.
I think that Piggy and Ralph want a direct democracy. They wants every decision/rule to be approved by the members of the island before being put into action. Ralph was chosen the by the boys to become a leader. Jack and his choir want an authoritarian government because he uses fear and threats to manipulate his followers. He also wants absolute power, meaning that he doesn't want to share power with anyone and wants it all to himself. Jack's bossy personality proves this.
Each boy has a slightly different idea of order, but the general consensus seems to be a type of parliamentary monarchy. The parliament would be the assembly of boys and the monarch would be Ralph. Most boys, including Ralph and Piggy want this kind of government although I believe Piggy wants more of an absolute monarchy because Ralph is nicer to him than the other boys. I believe that Ralph wants a parliamentary monarchy because he asserts himself the leader. For example, on page 70 he is arguing with Jack. He then says, "I was chief, and you were going to do what I said." Ralph has no trouble saying that he is chief but still lets the assembly vote.
Jack and the littluns however prefer a type of anarchy, or absence of government. They don't want to be ordered around. The littluns like it without grown-ups and prefer to do as they please rather than listen to another boy. Jack shows that he is all right with an anarchy because he also likes to do as he pleases. On page 91, Ralph tells him, "You're breaking the rules!" To this Jack responds, "Who cares...Bollocks to the rules!" This shows that Jack doesn't care about the rules and is fine with the idea of anarchy.
I think that Jack wants a monarchy, it shows in the text that he wants to be a leader and makes all the people listen to him. Ralph and Piggy are like democracy, they make all the rules and want everyone there to follow them. Jack wants to hunt for food he is like monarchy as well because he wants other people to listen to him. Jack is strict against what he says. All the other guys as well are kind of democracy only because each person there had there own idea that they wanted to share, like what job was going to be done and by who.
Ralph would likely want a republic, because he and others were voted and placed as representatives of the group. Piggy would probably want a democracy, because he would want everyone to be heard by the conch. Jack would likely want a dictatorship or monarchy because he is so forceful and would want to be the sole controller of everyone on the island.
There are two different governments shown in the book. Ralph most likely wants a Democracy and Piggy and the others boys do too. A Democracy is a form of government where all citizens are treated equally and have an equal say in the decisions that effect their lives. Ralph wants everyone to participate in the activities around the island. He was disappointing when no one cared about building the huts or keeping the fire going. He wants everyone to do equal the work and help out equally. On the other hand, Jack wants a Monarchy. A Monarchy is a system of government in which a king is the sole ruler. Jack wants to be the absolute ruler. He wants to be the only one in charge in their government where everyone listens and obeys him. Jack could start a revolution if he was in charge because he only listens to himself and he changes his mind quickly. A Democracy and a Monarchy are the main governments shown.
I believe that Ralph would want a democracy. He doesnt abuse his power, plus he doesn't rule for himself. He also want to get off the island. Also he holds assemblies because he wants everyones' decision before he decides something.
I also believe that Piggy also wants a democracy because he always asks for peoples' opinions, like Ralph. He also contributes to the assembly like Ralph.
I think that Jack wants a monarchy because he wants to rule by himself and everyone should listen to him. You can see how he's like this by the way he ignores the conch and orders around the hunters.
I also think that Simon wants a democracy because even though he's shy, he wants what's best for him and everyone else. And he thinks the best way to do this is through Ralph's ideas.
I believe that Jack wants an absolute monarchy, where he would be the sole ruler of the island. Jack believes that what he says is always right, and that what he says should be final. He does not like to listen to what others have to say.
I believe that Piggy wants a democracy. He likes the idea of the conch, and listening to what all the boys have to say. Piggy does not try to control everything. He thinks that what everyone else says is just as important as what he says.
I believe Ralph also wants a democracy. He listens to what everyone else has to say. He does not abuse his power of being "ruler" of the island. Ralph wants everyone to be treated equally, and wants everyone to help out on the island.
I believe that Ralph and Piggy want some form of a democracy. Ralph is the chief, but he doesn't abuse his power as someone like Jack would. He also lets everyone vote in the assemblies before deciding what is going to happen. Piggy also respects everyone's opinions, and likes to have his own heard. Jack wants a monarchy. He believes he is above the law in ways such as not respecting the rule of the conch. He doesn't respect other people's opinions and he wants to rule all for himself.
There are two main types of government represented by the boys in this book. There is Jack; who wants a monarchy with him as the leader, and there is Ralph (Piggy included); who wants a democracy where everyone votes and voices their own opinions. Either way, both of these boys want and have the ability to rule and while Jack has his following of hunters/choir boys, Ralph has Piggy and the all the other boys. Both opinions are backed on either side and this is going to lead to a major conflict. And we can't forget Simon and Piggy. They may not be as major as Jack or Ralph but both are still important characters. Piggy, I believe, would follow Ralph to the ends of the earth so he would want a democracy. Simon is not mentioned as much as Piggy and he usually doesn't voice his own opinion so I think he might be on Ralph's side also because he's not like the other hunters and he doesn't follow Jack around like he follows Ralph.
I think that Ralph, Piggy, and Simon all share similar opinions on their government. They all accept and agree with the fact that Ralph is the leader, and all three of them were all for voting for a leader. Therefore, I would classify all of them as a democracy.
Jack on the other hand would prefer to rule by himself and have full power. He was very disappointed when he lost the election, and he has a very superior tone when speaking, as in he yells when someone does something even the slightest bit out of line. He treats the choir as if they are his slaves. So, I would say that Jack's government is a dictatorship or tyranny.
When reading I see two different types of government.
Jack who wants a monarchy where HE is the monarchy and is in charge. He doesn't listen to what other people have to say or respect them when they have the conch. He seems to be a very dominate person which is why he would be a monarch. There is also Ralph and Piggy who want a democracy. Ralph allows everybody to vote to see who would be the chief. And he let's people talk when they have the conch. That way everybody get's to vote and state their opinions which is why he and Piggy represent Democracy.
There are two points of views on the government and how the boys should be ruled. I think that most everyone wants a democracy, such as Ralph, Piggy, and Simon. Then there is Jack who wants a monarchy. Ralph wants a democracy because he wants everyone to be equal and he thinks that it will help them get off the island faster if they all get along. Piggy wants a democracy because he wants rules that are not made up by Jack and he wants order, but otherwise he agrees with Ralph’s way of government. Simon agrees that there should be a democracy because he also finds that Jack would not be a fit ruler. Then there is Jack who wants the monarchy because he wants to be in complete control of the boys and the rules.
Ralph wants a democracy so long as he feels the rest of the boys can make reasonable decisions. Most of the time, however, the group behaves like the children that they are, and accomplishes practically nothing. Therefore, Ralph controls the boys most of the time as a monarch. Ralph’s main goal is to be rescued, though. He does not care about what sort of government there is so long as everyone does their job. Piggy wants control himself as a monarch. Piggy has many ideas that he would like to institute but has no means of doing so. However, Piggy is made fun of much of the time, and others would not vote for him. Therefore, Piggy has to put up with someone else in power. Piggy wants to make sure that that person is someone he can trust, though. Jack wants a dictatorship where he is the dictator. Jack is selfish, and wants to control the others so they will do what he wants them to do. Most of the time, this is hunting for pigs. Simon wants a democracy. Simon looks up to Ralph and Jack to lead the group, but wants some say in what goes on. Most of the other boys are respectful of the rules, such as not speaking unless they have the shell. Each boy listens to the others, but wants some say in the group. Therefore, most of the boys want a democracy.
I think that Ralph wanted a democracy government. This is because he wanted everyone to do their own work. He basically wanted everyone to be able to take care of themselves. You can tell that he wants people to be responsible because he gets mad and says that all the boys are acting like children and he doesn't like that. A contrast to Ralph would be Jack since he seems to want to be the "absolute ruler" type of person. He is more of a person that needs power to make him feel secure. That is why he believes in the monarchy. Also Jack already has the choir following him which proves his power.
I think the government that represents each boy's idea of order is the democracy kind. I think this because for example, every boy in the book introduced so far had admired Ralph in a way, obviously except Piggy. Therefore because he was so admired he was "elected" the leader. Then this leader had chosen who did what. It was basically up to the boys and how their ideal person was for each job in which they chose who did what. Though this may be unfair to some, it was the boys idea of order that created this democracy, justly or not.
i think that that the goverment represented in this book is democracy. this is because the did have an "election" and ralph got the part, so basically he is the president or cheif. jack is like a vice president because he still has power over the boys but only certain ones. the rest of them are like citizens and do have a say in the way things go, but overall ralph makes the decisions. it is also like a democracy because of the organized voting and meetings. even though sometimes the older boys overrule the young ones they do still listen to everybodys ideas.
I would have to agree with everyone. Jack is very demanding and controlling he wants to rule everything and he would represent a Monarchy where basically one person rules everything. Piggy and Ralph would like to rule everything but they don't really show it they aren't as bossy but i think they represent democracy because they wouldn't mind having everyone share ideas and doing whatever they want

ReplyDeleteI think there are two different types of government going on in the book. I think that jack wants a monarchy. I also think that Ralph wants a democracy.
ReplyDeleteJack wants to rule everything on the island.
ReplyDeleteJack shows that he wants a monarchy by bossing all the other boys around.
ReplyDeleteAs for the other ones that take sides with Jack, he just wants to like rule the place all by himself without any rules there; he just wants to hunt for food without making any fire to get out of the place so Jack would probably be in the monarchy type of government.
I think that Ralph wants a democracy. While on the other hand Jack wants a Monarchy. This is can be supported welly by how they act Jack is a boy who wants to boss everybody around and does not care what they have to say. But Ralph is the type of boy who cares about the well being of everybody on the island.
ReplyDeleteAlso most of the boys will want a democracy like Ralph does because they would want to put their ideas and thoughts out.
ReplyDeleteJack and his choir want an authoritarian government because he uses fear and threats to manipulate his followers.
ReplyDeleteJack and the littluns however prefer a type of anarchy, or absence of government. They don't want to be ordered around. The littluns like it without grown-ups and prefer to do as they please rather than listen to another boy. Jack shows that he is all right with an anarchy because he also likes to do as he pleases. On page 91, Ralph tells him, "You're breaking the rules!"
To this Jack responds, "Who cares...Bollocks to the rules!" This shows that Jack doesn't care about the rules and is fine with the idea of anarchy.
I think that Jack wants a monarchy, it shows in the text that he wants to be a leader and makes all the people listen to him. Ralph and Piggy are like democracy, they make all the rules and want everyone there to follow them.
ReplyDeleteJack wants to hunt for food he is like monarchy as well because he wants other people to listen to him.
ReplyDeleteThere are two different governments shown in the book.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Jack wants a Monarchy.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that Piggy also wants a democracy because he always asks for peoples' opinions, like Ralph.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Piggy wants a democracy.
ReplyDeleteJack wants a monarchy.
ReplyDeleteEither way, both of these boys want and have the ability to rule and while Jack has his following of hunters/choir boys, Ralph has Piggy and the all the other boys. Both opinions are backed on either side and this is going to lead to a major conflict.
And we can't forget Simon and Piggy. They may not be as major as Jack or Ralph but both are still important characters. Piggy, I believe, would follow Ralph to the ends of the earth so he would want a democracy. Simon is not mentioned as much as Piggy and he usually doesn't voice his own opinion so I think he
might be on Ralph's side also because he's not like the other hunters and he doesn't follow Jack around like he follows Ralph.
I think that Ralph, Piggy, and Simon all share similar opinions on their government. They all accept and agree with the fact that Ralph is the leader, and all three of them were all for voting for a leader. Therefore, I would classify all of them as a democracy.
ReplyDeleteJack on the other hand would prefer to rule by himself and have full power.
ReplyDeleteJack who wants a monarchy where HE is the monarchy and is in charge.
ReplyDeleteRalph wants a democracy so long as he feels the rest of the boys can make reasonable decisions. Most of the time, however, the group behaves like the children that they are, and accomplishes practically nothing. Therefore, Ralph controls the boys most of the time as a monarch. Ralph’s main goal is to be rescued, though. He does not care about what sort of government there is so long as everyone does their job.
ReplyDeletePiggy wants control himself as a monarch.

ReplyDeleteUnder Chp. 6, but that's ok...
ReplyDeleteI think that Ralph wanted a democracy government.
ReplyDeleteI think the government that represents each boy's idea of order is the democracy kind.
ReplyDeletei think that that the goverment represented in this book is democracy. this is because the did have an "election" and ralph got the part, so basically he is the president or cheif. jack is like a vice president because he still has power over the boys but only certain ones. the rest of them are like citizens and do have a say in the way things go, but overall ralph makes the decisions. it is also like a democracy because of the organized voting and meetings. even though sometimes the older boys overrule the young ones they do still listen to everybodys ideas.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with everyone.
